Women's Spring 2008 Style Guide

It's finally spring, and time for some fresh new styles! Spring fashionweek debuted some new looks, new takes on old looks, and some oldies but goodies. As expected, white has come back with a vengeance. White dresses, tops, and pants will be big this year. Sheer and translucent fabrics, as well as pastel colors, remain springtime staples. Last years' skinny jeans and babydoll dresses are still on the rise, while mod prints and layered looks have been updated. Time to toss those peasant skirts and maxidresses!

White and Light

Everyone needs a little white dress for spring 2008. The best came from Calvin Klein and Chloe.
High-waisted white short are great for lithe gals. Try Ralph Lauren or Alice Ritter.
Other popular ways to make it all white this season: swimsuits and shoes.

Sheer Fabrics

Fashion stripped down to a whisper.
Translucent fabrics were layered, distressed and ruffled for fresh appeal.
Sheer metallic fabrics were the staple of Millo, Badgley Mischka and Fendi.
Brands to consider: Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang and Versace.

Bold and Bright

Bright printed sundresses and minidresses are huge this spring.
Bright solids and technicolor pieces are making a splash.
Brands to consider: Anna Sui, Betsey Johnson and DKNY.

Pretty Pastels

Spring will always be associated with light and airy pastels.
Consider an easter colored dress or a light and sheer top.
Brands to consider: Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein

Wide Leg

Great style for work or play.
Look for grey, charcoal, navy, or white.
For a more casual look, try dark denim.

Baby Doll

Dresses were swingy with high waists.
Volume was controlled by using lightweight fabrics like chiffon, and satin.
Best bets: Alice Ritter, Pucci and Miu Miu and for evening Marchesa.
A nice touch: Jill Stuart and Oscar de la Renta lace added to the dress.

Layered

Layered doesn't mean piling it on thick and heavy. Instead, look for clothes with the layers built in: a tiered skirt, a pleated top or a draped dress.
Lighten up by picking soft nude colors when shopping for layers.

Super Skinny

Drop that bagel and hit the pilates studio. Slim pants are still trendy, especially when it come to denim
Riding on your hips, squeezing your thighs, and terminating at your ankles, skinny jeans are part of the retro '80s revival.
White jeans are a great way to work this look for spring. Try Acne, Paige or Juicy Couture.

Slouchy Bottoms

Want to eat that bagel after all? Then this look is for you. The wide leg pant made a comeback.
Baby Phat, DKNY and Sonia Rykiel all showed loose and drapey bottoms.
Pair with a sheer tailored top to keep things in proportion for spring.

Accessories:

Microscopic handbags: Chanel and Fendi are two trendsetter trying to get us to leave some of our baggage at home.
Enormous tote bags: Louis Vuitton and Celine are practical and lust worthy.
Large belts: Wide belts accenting the waist were featured by Stella McCartney, Marni and Michael Kors.
Clunky shoes: Thick platforms and wide straps continue to be the trends in footwear. It'll be a tough sell to most women. If you want to try this trend, checkout the offerings from Chloe and Dolce & Gabbana. Prada walked some funky, yet wearable, foot art that gets my vote.
