Spice Racks

Spice cabinets are notorious for being one of the most cluttered places in the house. Fortunately, it is easy to avoid the problem of a disorganized spice cabinet by getting a spice rack One of these options might help you make the change from being unable to find a single bay leaf to having all your seasonings close at hand.

Spice Organization Options

Counter Top Spice Racks

  • Convenient if you use lots of spices when you cook.
  • A lot of counter top racks have the option of being wall mounted.
  • Generally, these are the least expensive racks.
  • Racks come in metal or in natural wood.

Cabinet Door Mounted Racks

  • Attaches to almost any cabinet door.
  • Clears up counter space.
  • Make sure the rack does not block the labels.
  • Not recommended if you slam cabinet doors.

Drawer Spice Racks

  • Spices stay fresher and last longer if they are stored away from light.
  • Fits into most drawers (can easily be trimmed with a band saw).
  • Easy to remove and clean.

Rotating or 'Carousel' Racks

  • Fit in a cabinet or on the counter.
  • Some carousels are spice dispensers as well.
  • Dispenser carousels measure out 1/4 tsp and 1/2 tsp increments of spices.
  • Dispensers have limited capacity and you have to label compartments yourself.

Magnetic Spice Rack

  • They can stick to your fridge! How cool is that?
  • Can get a little hazardous if there's a lot of traffic near your fridge, but you can buy a magnetic steel plate to mount on the wall over your counter instead.
  • Can be cluttered if you have many spices.
