Ballet Flats

With the rising popularity of ballet flats, women have been presented with even more choices in their footwear. The ballet flat combines the elegance of a ballet slipper with the practicality of a casual flat. The beauty of the ballet flat lies in its versatility. Worn with dress pants they compliment one's work ensemble but they can also be paired with jeans to create a more casual look. This creates an alternative for women who do not enjoy wearing painful heels.

Styles and Colors

The great thing about ballet flats is that they are available in a wide range of styles and colors. You can find a good pair for under $20 or a pay hundreds for a high end pair. This wide range allows them to be paired with almost anything (well maybe not sweat pants.)

Cons

  • Ballet flats are exactly that-flat. As with any flat shoe, they can make your legs appear shorter. To combat this, pair them with a short skirt to give the legs a longer appearance
  • As with most dress shoes, ballet flats lack laces or a way of securing them in place. To make sure you don't slip out of them, buy a snug fitting pair.
